CAST-NC 2007 Annual Meeting Announcement

 

 

旅美科技协会北卡分会(CAST-NC, http://www.castnc.org )2007年年会经过几个月的筹划,定于121日(周六)晚上七时正在北卡州立大学(NSCUTalley 学生中心4楼的Walnut Room举行。

 

今年年会的主题是事业开拓与领导才能。北卡科技协会非常荣幸地邀请到在制药业巨擘GSK担任高级副总裁的洪志博士就这一主题与大家分享他的见解和体会。洪志博士毕业于复旦大学,后赴美留学获纽约大学水牛城分校生物化学博士学位。他不但是一名出色的高级行政管理人员,还是一位药物开发科学家,获多项专利,并发表了过百篇学术论文。

 

组委会还邀请到另一位有多年经验、专门为生物/生命科学领域公司招聘人才的主管Don Alexander为大家介绍三角地区生物/生命科学领域人才市场的需求以及就业的技能,他并且会就应试策略、简历撰写以及通过关系网寻找工作等问题为大家提供咨询和帮助。他还将在现场招聘人才。

 

这次的年会无论从内容和形式都力求符合三角区专业人士的诉求以及为大家提供信息与帮助。我们热诚期待CAST-NC的会员与朋友们积极参与这一活动。年会后将在同一地点举办舞会,欢迎各界朋友参加。

 

Dear CAST-NC Members and Friends,

 

The Chinese Association of Science & Technology, North Carolina Chapter (CAST-NC) will hold its annual all-member meeting on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at 7:00pm at Walnut Room, 4th Floor, Talley Student Center, North Carolina State University (NCSU).

 

Besides a few brief reports, this year’s annual meeting will be featured by a new theme of “Leadership and Career Development.”  Dr. Zhi Hong, both an outstanding scholar and a high level executive officer at GSK, has gracefully accepted our invitation to give the keynote speech at the meeting.

 

We also invited Mr. Don Alexander, Recruiting Manager, Director Business Development - Life Sciences of Carlyle & Conlan for a presentation titled " Translational Skill Sets in Life Sciences". His talk will focus on what employers value as transferable skill sets from one area to another area in life sciences. He will also talk about employment in life sciences sector in the Triangle, what areas are in high demand and growing, how to attract an employer's attention (interview process, resume creation and network strategy).

 

CAST-NC members are strongly encouraged to make every effort to attend the meeting, and to renew your membership on site.  Non-member friends are also welcomed, not only to join the meeting, but also to join CAST-NC on site for our commonly shared interests.

Brief Biography of the Speakers

 

Dr. Zhi Hong:

Dr. Zhi Hong is Senior Vice President and Head of the Infectious Diseases Center of Excellence for Drug Discovery at GSK.  Before taking this position in April this year, Dr. Hong was Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of Ardea Biosciences, Inc., a San Diego, California, biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of targeted small-molecule drugs to treat viral diseases, cancer, and inflammation.  He earlier served as Vice President and Head of Research at Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, where he built up the Discovery group from 14 to more than 70 staff and eventually led the entire Research group of some 120 staff. The Research group supported activities from target selection through Phase II clinical studies, with an emphasis on infectious diseases. Dr. Hong also held leadership positions on project teams, which advanced five discovery compounds to the clinic for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS. Previously, he worked in various research and management roles at Schering-Plough Research Institute.

 

Dr. Hong received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Fudan University in Shanghai and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is an inventor on numerous patents and an author of more than 100 research papers. He has devoted much of his research to viral replication and the mechanism of action of ribavirin and interferon.

 

Mr. Don Alexander

With over a decade of executive search industry experience, Don has spent the last several years focusing on executive search with a concentration on local and national search projects for mid to senior level professionals in the Life Sciences. His searches have involved senior level individual contributors through C level executives, with particular  emphasis on sales, business development, marketing, product development, project management and pre-clinical R&D. In addition, Don has prior experience recruiting in Technology and Engineering. An enabler of relationships that have resulted in quantifiable goodwill for his constituency, Don is recognized by his clients, candidates and peers, as routinely creating value through a powerful network and deep industry knowledge. Throughout his recruiting career, Don has consistently finished in the top quartile of his peer group.                           

 

Prior to the recruiting industry, Don spent several years in the financial  services industry and managed several million dollars in assets. He holds the designations of CFP and AAMS and a BA in Business Management and Economics from North Carolina State University.
